Team Ico Working on “Sequel”

Many publications are quoting the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK, who in turn carries a quote from an unnamed Sony executive that Team Ico are working on a sequel, though it is yet unknown which game he was referring to. The famed team, led by designer Fumito Ueda, is behind the legendary Ico - billed as one of the best game on the PS2 - as well as Shadow of the Colossus, which was released in late 2005 to much critical acclaim.

It was previously known that the team is working on at least one unannounced PS3 project.

New Titles Added to PS2 “Greatest Hits”

Beginning August 6, parsimonious gamers across the States will be able to add five new titles to their collection, thanks to new games being added to Sony’s “Greats Hits” lineup for the PS2. The new titles being added are SOCOM 3: US NAVY SEALs, Shadow of the Colossus, Ratchet: Deadlocked, Jak X: Combat Racing and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves. These additions mark a total of 169 “Greatest Hits” titles for the popular platform, with each retailing for as low as $20.

GDC and IGF Awards

The Game Developer Choice Awards have been announced, with Lord British (Richard Garriott) picking up his lifetime achievement award and Double Fine Productions winning Best New Studio and its game Psychonauts getting the best writing award. Shadow of the Colossus picked up a total of five awards, including Game Design, Character Design and the Best Game award.

In more awards news, the 7th Annual Independent Games Festival awards were announced, with Introversion’s Darwinia winning the grand prize of $20,000 for Best Independent Game. The game picked up three prizes, including the Seumas McNally Grand Prize. Other winners include Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, as well as modifications for games including Dystopia for Half-Life 2, the Last Man Standing Co-op for DOOM 3 and Path of Vengeance for Unreal Tournament 2004, among others.
