Never underestimate the power of a classic movie: Sierra has announced that Scarface: The World is Yours, the game based on the 1983 Al Pacino classic, has sold more than 1 million copies worldwide. In addition, Scarface: Money. Power. Respect. also claimed the top spot on the PSP chart in North America.
This announcement is undoubtedly a precursor to the revelation of the sequel…

Vivendi Games has announced that it will deliver Scarface: The World is Yours on October 8 for the PS2, Xbox and PC. The game is based on the 1983 film classic and will let players “become” Tony Montana as he rises through the world of drugs, corruption and violence.
Gamers who pre-order the title will receive a 24″ x 30″ Scarface print created by L.A. Pop Art, depicting an iconic film scene created out of the text of the original motion picture script. The PS2 version will see a “Collector’s Edition” that will include the entire game and a variety of extras including a bonus DVD featuring behind-the-scenes documentary, a game walkthrough with producer commentary, cast interviews, hints and tips, and more.
The PS2 and Xbox versions of the game will retail for $50, with the PS2 “Collector’s Edition” going for $60. The PC version will be cheaper at $40.

Bring out the ’80s hairdos, clothes and music: VU Games announced that it has signed some of the biggest music artists from the era to headline the in-game soundtrack for Scarface: The World is Yours. Popular 1980s acts including Run DMC, Judas Priest and Johnny Cash will see their music appear in the game alongside the entire motion picture score by Giorgio Moroder and songs from the original motion picture soundtrack. It will also feature several tracks from some of today’s biggest artistes; details will be available at a later date.
In development at Radical Entertainment, the game will let players customize their music experience through a “Mix Tape” feature. “Throughout the development process we have focused on giving the player the power to choose their own in-game music experience, whether it be the Scarface purist that wants only the film score, the player that wants authentic music from the time period or the fan that craves the hottest tracks from today’s talent,” said Cindy Cook, chief strategy and marketing officer for Vivendi Games. “We are able to offer this choice through our new ‘Mix Tape’ music mixer and an incredible lineup of 1980s and contemporary artists that are bringing their hits to the game. Generations of film fans and gamers will be able to create an experience that best suits their unique tastes.”
The in-game music will be playable all throughout the game, with a selection of songs available to the player from the start. More songs will have to be unlocked by completing various missions, or purchased through the game’s “Exotics Catalog,” which will allow players to purchase a vast array of items including décor for the mansion, rare vehicles, weaponry upgrades and more.

As for Scarface, Vivendi today announced that a PSP game based on the classic film will be released later this year. Dubbed Scarface: Money. Power. Respect., the game is in development at Farsight Studios, and unlike Radical Entertainment’s upcoming console game, the handheld offering will combine turn-based strategy with real-time combat.
The game will parallel the events of the movie, taking a different approach than The World is Yours. It will offer a single-player campaign as well as four-player wireless matches when it ships this October.

The upcoming Scarface game is getting a star-studded voice cast: VU Games has announced that it has signed five of Hollywoods sexiestactresses and models to lend their voices to the roles of the Femme Fatales Tony Montanas female companions in the upcoming action game. Vida Guerra, Meagan Good, Jillian Barberie, Amanda Righetti and Diora Baird will take on the roles of Tony Montana’s love interests.
The Femme Fatales play an important role in the development of Tony Montanas character and abilities. Once he has increased his reputation sufficiently, he will meet and court the women, ultimately convincing them to live with him in his Miami mansion. Have a band? Can sing? Looking for your ‘big’ break? Have a MySpace profile? Vivendi Universal Games has launched its Scarface Video Game Soundtrack Talent Search, a North American contest being run on MySpace.com that will reward the best unsigned music talent in the region with the inclusion of their song in the upcoming Scarface game and the chance to perform live in front of major music executives.
Bands and musicians who have a MySpace Music profile may enter the contest that will have the site’s community choose the best 200 tracks, which will then be heard by a panel of music and video game industry judges, who will determine 20 finalists. These 20 songs will then be put up for voting on the Scarface MySpace profile, with the one getting the most votes winning the contest.
The winner and two runner-ups will be flown to Los Angeles to open for a major label headline act at a concert event at E3 2006 – executives from major labels and videogame companies will be attending. The songs will also be included in the Scarface soundtrack, alongside tracks from established acts.
Scarface: The World is Yours will ship this Fall.
