Through an iffy Google translation and a slideshow image, Gizmodo is speculating that a redesigned PSP with a 60GB hard drive may be in the works. In Samsung’s recent showcase of its N-series 1.8-inch disk drives, the company (mistakenly?) depicted the PSP as having a built-in hard drive, though it is yet to be confirmed by either company.
Rumors of a PSP upgrade have been in the pipeline for quite some time now, and CES 2007 might be the end of the wait. Sony is expected to make an announcement regarding their portable console at the event, which takes place in a couple of weeks.

Coming as no surprise is word that Sony has higher brand recognition over its competitors. Kikizo tells us of a survey run in 10,000 North American households, which reveals that Sony’s PlayStation 3 is the most recognized console, with 72% of those who were surveyed saying that they’ve heard of the console, beating out the Xbox 360 and Revolution, both of which have 57% and 58% recognition, respectively.
Interestingly, Sony’s other console - the handheld PSP - beat out both the upcoming next-gen console in terms of recognition. The portable console had been heard by 65% of the people surveyed, though, more interestingly, 61% of these people had heard of the Game Boy Evolution, a codename for the successor to the Game Boy Advance.
Bad news for the Phantom: less than 50% had heard about it. How worse can it get? Those who had heard of it were not interested in buying one (if it ever came out). Ouch!
