Season of Street Fighter Starts This Month

With the release of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix looming, Capcom today announced the “Season of Street fighter”, noting that it will feature an assortment of Street Fighter-themed downloadable content packs, music inspired by the series, and newly designed digital destination points for both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

First off is the release of the Super Street Fighter Pinball FX downloadable packs, which adds a SF pinball table to the popular XBLA game. A DLC pack for Uno, offering new Street Fighter Command Cards with signature Street Fighter power moves, as well as backgrounds and music.

SFHD_Music_thumbnail5Capcom additionally stated that it has another “little” surprise coming to the PlayStation Network later this year.

Finally, the publisher will release a direct-to-download music album of hip-hop tracks inspired by the legendary fighting series. It will feature the musical talents of artists such as DJ Qbert, Redman, Oh No, DJ Toure and more. These songs will be free of charge and exclusive to the PlayStation Network.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix launches on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on November 25 and 26, respectively.

Linkin Park, Mastodon Rocks Guitar Hero 3

Quite a few new songs have been available on both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network for Guitar Hero 3 since last week. The first batch of new songs is “No More Sorrow” by Linkin Park, “Pretty Handsome Awkward” by The Used and “Sleeping Giant” by Mastodon. The songs are available as a track pack for 500 Microsoft points ($6.25); there is also a free track - a cover of “We Three Kings” by Steve Ouimette.

There are also three individually released tracks - Extremoduro’s “So Payaso”, Trust’s “Antisocial” and Die Fantastischen Vier’s “Ernten Was Wir S?en” - that are selling for 200 points ($2.5) each.

Sony Expanding PSN, PS3-Mobile Phone Connectivity in the Works

Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer is planning a major expansion for the PlayStation Network. He also talked about the company’s plans to link up the PS3 to mobile phones and a range of other unspecified products. The drive for mobile phone-PS3 connectivity will be part of the company’s next three-year business plan, he revealed.

Stringer also plans on building up the PlayStation Network with content from other Sony divisions. “On Friday, we had a dinner where the heads of Sony Electronics, [Sony] Pictures, Sony BMG, and Sony PlayStation were all at the same dinner table intermingled and actually communicating,” he said.

Punk Tracks Hit Rock Band

New tracks for Rock Band are now available for the game via Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network for their specific platforms. The three new tracks are The Clash’s “I Fought the Law,” “Rockaway Beach” by Ramones, and a cover of Buzzcocks’ “Ever Fallen in Love”.

They are bundled together for 400 MS points ($5.50), while each song can be purchased separately for 160 MS points ($2).

Warhawk Requires PS3 HDD Space

PSU carries word that Warhawk, which will be released today, will require about 800MB space on the PS3 hard drive to play. This has been done to reduce loading time.

They also report that this affects either version of the game. Warhawk is being released digitally on the PlayStation Network, as well as on Blu-ray.

FIFA Interactive World Cup Announced

FIFA, EA and SCEE have announced the new season of the FIFA Interactive World Cup, the world’s only officially FIFA sanctioned global football gaming competition. Participants across the world will compete using FIFA 08 on the PS3.

The tournament will kick off early in October 27 and will culminate in the Grand Final in Berlin’s Sony Centre in May 2008. This year, players will be able to compete at one of more than 20 physical FIWC 08 Qualifier Events across the globe or online via the PlayStation Network in over 25 countries. Finalists will compete to be crowned the ultimate champion and win a cash prize of USD 20,000.

PS3 Quiz Game Announced

In another announcement, SCEE announced Buzz!: Quiz TV, a quiz title for PS3 that will be available through Blu-ray in March 2008 featuring 5000 questions divided into five channels - music, movies and TV, sports, knowledge and lifestyle.

The game will let players download additional quiz packs through the PlayStation Store. It will also support online multiplayer gaming, letting users take part in leagues and tournaments. Finally, users will be able to write and share their own quizzes which can be created, played and rated via PC as well as PS3.

As stated above, the game is set for release during March 2008.

Folklore Gets DLC

Plans for downloadable content for Folklore have been announced at Sony’s PR space 3Rooms. The game’s designer Yoshiki Okamoto showed off six download packs, or “Quest Packs” as he calls them, which will be available in the PlayStation Store prior to the game’s release. According to him, each pack will contain 4 new quests, one costume and one monster.

As PS3 Fanboy points out, the first pack is already on the Japanese PS Store; it weighs in at 24 MB and is downloadable for free.

Saturday Demos

In the demo department, Meridian 4 has released a preview of RIP3 - The Last Hero. It offers all six unique heroes to play over the first ten levels in the game. Download it from 3D Downloads, FileFront and Gamer’s Hell.

A demo of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is now available for download through the PlayStation Network for the PS3. It offers one level from the game, allowing players to lead the Ghost team in Mexico to clean up a rebel camp. The PS3 has also received demos of The Darkness. Meanwhile, a preview of Fatal Inertia has hit Xbox Live Marketplace.

Tekken 5 Gets Online Play

Revealed some time back, Namco Bandai has officially announced that the online add-on pack for the PS3 version of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection will be available in North America later this year. To be purchasable through the PlayStation Store for $9.99, the multiplayer add-on pack will add four different modes: Opti Match, Quick Match, Custom Match and Friend Match. An online news ticker will keep players notified of noteworthy movement on the leaderboards. The add-on will also add Practice and Survival modes to the game.

Interestingly, this add-on pack will be sold only to current owners of the game. Those looking to get the game once the add-on is released will be able to get the pack plus the game at its original $20 price point.

Resistance and Ratchet Content Coming

Shacknews carries confirmation from Insomniac Games that more content for Resistance: Fall of Man is headed to the PlayStation Network soon. “We actually have some content that hasn’t been shared yet,” said Ryan Schneider, marketing director at the studio. “So I think our fans will be happy in the coming months in terms of ongoing support for Resistance.”

He also teases that a demo for Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is also headed to the service. “We will touch the PlayStation Network somehow with the Ratchet & Clank Future franchise,” he said. However, he didn’t mention any timeframe as to when to expect the demo.

GripShift Update Released

Free upgrades for the North American version of GripShift have been released, making it significantly easier and faster for players to get around the game. Additional improvements have also been made to the leaderboards; gamers will also experience faster loading times.

Other feature enhancements include the ability to change the vehicle without exiting a game session, change controls, change current music track, as well as access the full “level select” menu from the in-game pause menu.

The game is available from the PlayStation Network for $9.99.

Heavenly Sword Demo Coming this Thursday

Confirmation comes from Sony that a playable demo of Heavenly Sword will be up for download from the EU PlayStation Store this Thursday. The final game is expected to ship on September 4.

The store update will also see additional content, including trailers from GT5 Prologue and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction; some PS One games will also be added - Crash 2, Spyro 2, MediEvil and Wipeout 2097.

Symphony of the Night Hits PS3, PSP

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is now available on the PlayStation Network as a $9.99 download, playable on both the PS3 and PSP. It is currently the highest priced game on the store where most games top out at $5.99.

The game will also be available as an unlockable in Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (PSP), an enhanced remake of the PC Engine game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.

LocoRoco Coming to PS3

loco-roco-ps3-official-20070717040223251.jpgIGN carries word that the PS3 sequel to Loco Roco was shown at the PlayStation Premier event and that it is coming soon to the PlayStation Network.

Dubbed Buu Buu Cocoreccho! By LocoRoco, the game is said to be more than a “peculiar extra chapter,” according to Sony. “Even if you don’t play it [as in control the game], the world and the LocoRoco will play [as in both playing amongst themselves and as in playing back like a video] on their own.”

According to the report, the PS3 version of the game will feature 200 LocoRoco characters and gamers will be able to use the SixAxis for motion-based controls. The game is also to be expected soon, as it is being listed by Sony as being 95% complete.
