NFS Undercover Patch Released

The first patch for the PC edition of Need for Speed Undercover can now be downloaded from the game’s official website; PS3 and Xbox 360 owners of the game can get the patch automatically from PSN and Xbox Live, respectively.

The developers note that now the patch is complete, they are going to focus on producing some DLC for the game. Here’s a bit on what they had to say for the patch:

When he spoke to me last week Scott said that, while patch was mainly focused on improving the frame-rate, his team worked particularly hard to get as many other fixes into it as possible. A great example of this is the new difficulty system for expert gamers. If you’ve played the game a lot you’ll notice that the difficulty level ramps up much earlier than previously making the game much more of a challenge.

Since Need for Speed: Carbon is now available, EA rolled out a bevy of upgrades and vehicles for the Xbox 360 version of the game via Xbox Live. Sadly, these aren’t free, having gamers pony up for cars and other unlockable stuff present in the boxed copy of the game. However, they did release a “Collector’s Edition” upgrade for those who bought the regular version of the game: going for 800 points ($10), the upgrade contains 12 tracks, 6 challenge missions and 10 cars. The content of the pack is exclusive and cannot be obtained in the game through other means.

EA also released Performance bundles: Drivetrain, Engine Boost and Handling, with each going for 400 points ($5). There is also an Ultimate bundle which contains all the content from the aforementioned packs for a discounted price of $10. Some of the content in the performance bundles can, however, be acquired in-game through other means.

There are also body modification kits for each of the car classes: Tuner, Exotic and Muscle. The three kits run for $3.75 each. Lastly, there are also three standalone cars for 80 points ($1) each: 2004 Lamborghini Murcielago, 2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10 and the 1999 Nissan Skyline GR-R R34. These cars can also be unlocked in the game’s Career mode.

In typical Need for Speed fashion, EA has announced that Emmanuelle Vaugier will star in NFS: Carbon this Autumn. You may remember her from Saw 2 and 40 Days and 40 Nights, as well as CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. Vaugier will star as Nikki, the ex-girlfriend of the hero who has returned to town to face his “mysterious” past.

“Being able to work in a videogame for the first time and working with the Need For Speed Carbon team at EA has been a great experience for me. This is a game that evolves the racing genre, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it”, Vaugier said. “Playing the role of Nikki allows me to take a completely fresh approach to acting and push the boundaries of the creative process.”

Carbon will seemingly feature the same video-acting style found in Most Wanted, but will hopefully be better as David Footman, who has worked on Hollywood blockbuster films such as X-Men (1 and 3), Fantastic Four and The Day After Tomorrow, has directed the green screen video shoot with Vaugier.

Being developed by EA Black Box in Vancouver, British Columbia, Need for Speed: Carbon will be released this Autumn for all next-gen platforms, on top of all current-gen platforms, handhelds, PC and mobile.

Yes, a new Need for Speed is headed your way. In Sony’s pre-E3 conference, a trailer for NFS: Carbon was shown, revealing that the title is headed for the PS3, but knowing EA, Carbon may very well be released on every platform known to man.

The trailer begins in the dark, with white lights flickering upward. After a brief EA logo, the headlights of three cars turn on, revealing misty air, and then the cars drive toward the camera. Text then flashes across the screen–Need for Speed Carbon.

No official announcement from EA was made, so no details are available.
