My Second Life on HBO

Showing the influence of virtual words on the real one, Reuters reports that HBO has bought the rights to a documentary shot entirely within Second Life, paying a six-figure sum to the author.

Set to be shown during 2008, the documentary tells the story of Douglas Gayeton and his Second Life avatar Molotov Alta who “disappeared from his California home” and began issuing video diaries from within the game.

There will be a total of 7 mini-episodes of “My Second Life” that explores a different subsculture within the virtual world, according to HBO. This ranges from cyberpunks to neo-luddites to sex slaves to king of the hobos. Those interested can check out the pilot episode on Youtube.

The Sopranos Game Announced

HBOs critically-acclaimed series The Sopranos is headed to consoles, as per an announcement by THQ. Currently under development, the game is being designed to evoke the atmosphere, action and conflicts of the hit show. It is being backed by the cast who will lend their voices and likenesses to the game, including James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano.

The Sopranos is scheduled for release this Holiday season for the PS2 and Xbox 360.

A mob war is brewing as Philadelphia’s and New Jersey’s most powerful families are about to collide. As the illegitimate son of “Big Pussy,” you have been born into the organization and are now being given an opportunity to demonstrate your loyalty to Tony Soprano. As a soldier you must earn money on collections, protect your turf through intimidation, and gain admirationwithin your own family to move up in the ranks of the organization. Carry out orders from Paulie, Silvio, Christopher and Tony in familiar locations such as the Bada Bing!, Nuovo Vesuvio’s and Satriale’s. Storyline collaborated with show creator David Chase and voiced by the show’s key cast members.
