In a surprising move, a free track for Guitar Hero 3 will be offered for PS3 gamers on Thursday, June 5. The free track in question will be inspired by God of War, Sony’s insanely awesome action game. This was revealed through a PlayStation Underground mailing from Sony (attached in this post), with no additional details provided.

This may seem odd at first, but Neversoft and Microsoft teamed up for a similar promotion that saw them giving away a free Halo tune for the Xbox 360 edition of the game.

Quite a few new songs have been available on both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network for Guitar Hero 3 since last week. The first batch of new songs is “No More Sorrow” by Linkin Park, “Pretty Handsome Awkward” by The Used and “Sleeping Giant” by Mastodon. The songs are available as a track pack for 500 Microsoft points ($6.25); there is also a free track - a cover of “We Three Kings” by Steve Ouimette.

There are also three individually released tracks - Extremoduro’s “So Payaso”, Trust’s “Antisocial” and Die Fantastischen Vier’s “Ernten Was Wir S?en” - that are selling for 200 points ($2.5) each.

To celebrate Thanksgiving, a completely free song for Guitar Hero III was released yesterday, offering Xbox 360 owners the chance to rock out to the MJOLNIR remix of the Halo theme. The song has been written, composed and performed by Martin O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori, with Steve Vai on the guitars.

If you didn’t already know, Guitar Hero 3 features all sorts of musical instruments that are from real-life. Activision has announced that it has partnered with leading musical instrument and equipment manufacturers including Gibson, Crate, Ernie Ball, Krank, Line 6 and Mackie for the game; various guitar and metal-related publications like Decibel, Guitar Player and Kerrang also make appearances in the game. Additionally, the publisher has partnered with Pontiac and Axe whose products also appear in the game.

Guitar Hero 3 is due out this Sunday in North America for PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360. The game is set for release late next month in Europe.

Europeans will have to wait a while longer than American gamers, as shredders in the region will be able to get their picks on Guitar Hero 3 on November 23. The game will be available on the PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360, and will feature the brand-new wireless Gibson Les Paul guitar controllers.

The third installment in the venerable franchise sees the addition of boss characters - played by Slash and Tom Morello - an all-new duel multiplayer mode and more. Guitar Hero 3 will be released in North America later this month.

New songs for Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock were revealed earlier this week by Activision. The announcement marks the addition of sixteen new songs from bands such as Aerosmith, Disturbed, White Zombie, Slipknot, Santana and The Who. This brings up the total number of known tracks to nearly 60. The new master tracks are:

Yes, gamers can now rock out in front of their computers. Guitar Hero 3 will be brought to the PC and Mac thanks to Aspyr who has partnered with Activision on this.

Being developed and published exclusively by Aspyr, the PC and Mac versions will feature the same content as their console counterparts, but will feature expanded online multiplayer game modes, allowing imaginary guitarists from all over the world battle each other.

All versions of the game - including PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 - will ship later this Fall.

The Games Convention is bringing out the best in all publishers. Activision has announced the worldwide release date for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - November 5. It will be released for the PS3, PC and Xbox 360, with a DS version also coming.

The company additionally revealed an international track list for Guitar Hero III. The list includes a diverse assortment of hits from across the globe, that include all master tracks from the following artists:

Some of the guys over at ScoreHero had the chance to visit Neversoft’s studio and check out Guitar Hero III. Not only did they return with gameplay impressions, but also word of four new tracks in the game: Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Suck My Kiss,” Iron Maiden’s “Number Of The Beast,” Dragonforce’s “Through the Fire And Flames” and ZZ Top’s “La Grange.”

The first three songs will be master recordings, with the last being a cover of the song. This update brings the list of known tracks to 20, with a majority being those performed by the original bands.

Guitar Hero 3 is set for release this October on PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360. There will also be a new guitar controller released with the game.
