Following up on their episodic format for Alone in the Dark, Atari has announced that the game will feature a DVD-style chapter menu, which will allow players to rewind or fast-forward through the game. Players can play through any chapter they want, whenever they want. However, the ending will only be unlocked once the full game has been played through.

It will also feature a “previously on…” cinematic before each chapter, showing gameplay and story moments from past sessions.

Alone in the Dark is due out next month for PC, PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii. A PS3 version is in the works for release later this year.

Further hyping the upcoming Alone in the Dark game, Atari and Milan Records today announced their collaboration to release the soundtrack for the horror game on May 24. The score was composed by Olivier Deriveire and performed by world famous, Grammy Award-winning choir The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices.

“For its first release of a video game soundtrack, Milan Records is very proud to be associated with such a classic series as Alone in the Dark,” said Nick Bobetsky, VP Sales and Marketing, MILAN RECORDS. “This is an original and powerful soundtrack, which goes beyond what you would normally expect in a video game.”

The game itself will ship to stores on June 20 and June 24 in Europe and North America, respectively, for PS2, Wii, PC and Xbox 360; the PS3 version will be released sometime later this year. Below is the full track listing for the soundtrack:

As per a feature in this month’s issue of Games for Windows magazine, Eden Games has delayed Alone in the Dark (PC, PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360). The game, originally expected this March, will now be released in September.

Gamespot reports that Spore will not be released until the second half of 2007. This comes straight from Will Wright, the guy behind the game (and The Sims), who states that this release window is “for now”, implying that the release hasn’t been set in stone yet.

The site also reports that the highly anticipated next-gen entry in the Alone in the Dark series has been delayed. Atari, the game’s publisher, revealed that the game is in development for release during its fiscal 2008, which runs from April 2007-March 2008. Curiously, the company only mentioned the title’s presence on PS3 and Xbox 360; the PC edition went unmentioned.

Although everyone knows that Alone in the Dark will be released on the PS3, Atari has confirmed it, saying that the PS3 version will launch simultaneously with the Xbox 360 and PC versions.

Developed by Eden Games, Alone in the Dark will employ an episode based structure, letting gamers pick it up and play through it in short bursts.

Questionably, no release date was mentioned.

Taking a fresh approach to game design, Atari and Eden Games have announced that Alone in the Dark will follow the episodic style of gaming.

Inspired by the presentation style and structure of TV shows, the game will be split into distinct episodes in a season-style format. Departing the film-style script and structures of other games, Alone in the Dark will let players embark on 30-40 minute journeys through “episodes”, with the player getting a quick recap each time one loads a save game. Each episode, taking its cue from TV shows, will end with a cliffhanger and the recap feature will let players get in on the story; if a player wants to leave the game, a video teaser of the next episode will play to “leave them wanting more.”

Alone in the Dark is in development for the PS3, PC and Xbox 360.

Previously announced for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Atari has let it out that Alone in the Dark 5 will also be released for the PC; it will launch simultaneously with Microsoft’s next-gen console.
