Singapore-based Cherry Credits, a provider of micropayments solutions, has announced that its New Economy eXchange Technology (NEXT) micropayments engine has been adopted by major online games publishers including Acclaim, NCSoft, and many others. The NEXT system offers publishers access to previously unavailable teenage and young adults market.

Currently the system has been employed in Lineage II from NCSoft, 9Dragons, BOTS and 2Moons from Acclaim, Trickster Online from Ntreev USA and more.

2Moons Officially Announced

Following up on the MMORPG revelation, Acclaim has officially announced 2Moons, a free MMORPG specifically for “adult gamers.” Headed by David Perry, former Shiny head (pun intended), 2Moons is based upon a successful Korean MMO called Dekaron.

The press release (after the jump), full of hyperbole and hype, lets us know that interested users may register for the closed beta that will let players “kick @$$ for free!”

2Moons Announced

Former Shiny dude (and founder) David Perry is now working on 2Moons, a free MMORPG to be published by Acclaim. Based on a Korean MMORPG, the game will “probably be the most violent MMO on the market,” according to David Perry. MMORPG has an audio interview with him discussing the game, as well as some artwork.

Enjoyed Acclaim games? Throwback Entertainment has announced that it has acquired the rights to multiple titles from the now-defunct publisher. Their library of games include Gladiator, Vexx, Extreme-G Racing, Legends of Wrestling, Re-Volt and Summer Heat Volleyball, among many others.

“Acquiring the Acclaim titles provides a significant addition to our company, and will allow us to target different markets and opportunities.” said Thomas Maduri, CEO of Throwback Entertainment, Inc.

Acclaim was established in 1987 and developed, published and marketed several successful franchises. However, the company made several bad choices towards the end of its lifecycle, finally declaring bankruptcy and closing down in 2004.

Acclaim Signs Massive Deal

Making somewhat of a comeback, Acclaim has announced that it has signed a deal with Massive Inc. that will see the inclusion of multiple of its titles in the Massive Network, the dynamic in-game advertising network. The first title will be BOTS, a free action-themed multiplayer online game. Very popular in Asia, BOTS is being redesigned and launched in the West, with Acclaim starting beta testing in several weeks.

It seems that Acclaim is back from the dead, though not in the way it used to be. A new company, based in Los Angeles, using the older name, has launched its online presence and will specialize in bringing Asian MMORPGs to North America. They are currently accepting applications for the closed beta of BOTS.
