Not just any force of guinea pigs is headed our way, as Disney Interactive Studios today announced that they have enlisted an elite force of guinea pigs to star in the upcoming G-Force video game, inspired by the forthcoming Walt Disney film.
Scheduled for release this July on PC, PS2, PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, DS and Wii, the action-platform game has guinea pigs use high-tech gadgets and specialized talents to complete dangerous missions. Here’s the scoop:
Players control Darwin, the G-Force team leader, and housefly surveillance commando Mooch. Darwin and Mooch team up with the rest of G-Force to use their unique high-tech gadgets, stealth mastery, and pint-sized teamwork to save the world from a robot army of evil household appliances. G-Force features innovative gameplay with a unique sense of scale and puzzle solving that requires players to manipulate environments or enemies, including evil household appliances like waffle irons, water coolers and vacuum cleaners to complete their mission.
It is being developed by Eurocom, while the DS and PSP versions are being handled by Keen Games.

Make way for awesomeness on handhelds, as Apogee Software today announced that Critical Mass, the first entry in the new Duke Nukem trilogy, will arrive on DS and PSP this September.
Developed by Frontline Studios, the action game takes place in the future, while the latter two are respectively set in the modern day and during World War II.
The company additionally announced that it is kicking off a talent search for the “next live-action Duke Nukem actor.” Applicants will be judged on “how well they personify the character’s take-no-prisoners attitude.”
Auditions will be held in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas. Submissions are also being accepted in DVD, tape or Quicktime form, so if you don’t live in those areas, you can still apply.

Seeing as how the Need for Speed franchise has become an annual one, what would 2009 be without a NFS game? EA sent out word that Need for Speed SHIFT, the latest entry in the series, will hit stores on September 18.
Deviating from the arcade gameplay of the series, the game will offer simulation gameplay, featuring some of the world’s most iconic racing tracks, including the storied Brand’s Hatch in the UK. It will also include high-performance cars such as the Pagani Zonda, Porsche 911 GT2 and Lotus Elise.
The game is being developed by Slightly Mad Studios in collaboration with Black Box and Patrick Soderlund. Slightly Mad consists of people who worked on the critically acclaimed games GT Legends and GTR 2.
NFS Shift is due out on PC, PSP, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Having released the game, Sony Computer Entertainment has partnered with community site Global Gaming to throw an online multiplayer tournament for Resistance: Retribution, its portable third-person shooter.
Registration has already opened and runs until May 10. There will be two ladders – 2v2 and 4v4 – offering over $25,000 in prizes for US gamers.
The tournament itself will begin on April 8, with winners declared May 31. Prizes include LCD televisions, large-size memory sticks, Sonystyle gift cards and more.

“With ARMY OF TWO: THE 40th DAY, we’re pushing the tactical two-man military team into new battlegrounds offering a completely organic and rich co-op experience to deliver an action-packed co-op shooter this winter,” says Reid Schneider, Executive Producer, EA Montreal. ”As chaos blankets Shanghai, China, you must rely on your partner to survive as you weave through a broken city left devastated in a mysterious wake.”
The game will have players fighting through ravaged city districts of Shanghai, China, as they try to beat the odds and uncover the secret behind the game’s subtitle. It will feature new co-op moves and more.

“No player has elevated the game of golf more than Tiger Woods and we celebrate his return with a game that recreates the atmosphere of the PGA TOUR like never before,” said executive producer Mike Taramykin. “Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 continues the long-standing tradition of providing an authentic golf experience that is accessible to skilled and casual gamers alike.”

Sony’s not doing so well in North America, as the latest data from NPD shows that the year-on-year decline in sales of the PS3 is 24.5% in January. The console sold 269,000 units in January 2008, compared to last month’s results of 203,200 units.
However, during this same period, Microsoft saw sales grow more than 25%, from 230,000 units to 309,000 units this year. Nintendo saw the biggest increase – from 274,000 to 676,000 units.
The PSP also saw a 25% decline, while the PS2, which can be counted as dead, saw a 62% decline with sales of 101,200 units.

Whoever said the PSP is dead? Sony today announced that it has sold a total of 50 million units since the console’s launch. This sales figure is worldwide and includes sales for all models and revisions.
The PSP was launched back in December 2004 in Japan, March 2005 in North America, May 2005 in Asia and September 2005 across Europe. It features a 4.3 inch wide-screen LCD screen, memory card support, Wi-fi and more. The console has gone through a couple of revisions that has seen it shed weight, gain a better display and the ability to make VoIP calls through Skype, among other things.
However, it has been suffering from a case of software drought since its release. Many big-name games have been released for the platform, though it is superseded by the popularity of the DS. Sony aims to correct the situation this year, promising that it has many games in store for the PSP.

European’s have long mourned the fact that they were not subject to the awesomeness of N+, but that time has come to an end as Atari will bring the antics of the beloved flash ninja to the region for the PSP and DS in March and April 2009, respectively.
N+ is an equal parts platformer and action game, offering fluid animation, fast action, acrobatics and instant playability. The portable game features pick-up-and-play style that has enamored gamers in the rest of the world.
The PSP and DS versions feature cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes and level sharing. They also have a built-in level editor, letting you and your friends share your weird maps; it also carries support for downloadable content.

Codemasters today announced Colin McRae: DiRT 2, the sequel to their 2007 best-selling off-road racer. In development at Codemasters Studios for release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, as well as Wii, DS and PSP in 2009, the game will honor the life of the rally legend, Colin McRae, who consulted on the series for over ten years before dying in a tragic helicopter accident.
“Colin McRae was all about the speed, the excitement and the entertainment of rally driving. Even when we first worked with him over ten years ago, he captured a freedom and a spirit that enthralled rally fans.” said Gavin Raeburn, senior executive producer at Codemasters Studios. “Later his showmanship shone through in events such as the X-games, the Dakar Rally and the Race of Champions. He could do things with a car that no one else would and that’s where we’re taking the series with new events at the extreme edge of rally and autosport. It will be a great tribute to an incredible champion.”
The sequel will feature a roster of contemporary off-road events as well as real-life racing personalities and officially licensed rally cars and off-road vehicles. It will be powered by the third generation of the EGO engine which benefits from tuned-up car-handling physics system and new damage engine effects. It will also show two times more detail than its predecessor.
Codemasters has released three ‘target’ visuals and confirmation that the original’s shitty multiplayer will be fixed in the sequel.

Surprising everyone, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: World at War has sold more than double on Call of Duty 4’s first week of UK sales.

Neither sales figures nor per-console breakdown was provided for the game’s sales.
Series creator Infinity Ward is now working on Call of Duty 6 for release sometime next year.
