The much hated Guitar Hero 2 song packs are apparently popular. Activision sent out word that downloadable song packs for the game have achieved multi-platinum status with more than 650,000 downloads through Xbox Live Marketplace in less than five months. Each pack contains three individual songs, which when combined top the two million mark, making them some of the most downloaded content on the broadband network.

“Activision was the first third-party publisher to offer downloadable content via Xbox LIVE to consumers and as a result, we have tremendous insight into the types of content that consumers want,” states Dusty Welch, head of publishing, RedOctane. “The Guitar Hero II downloadable video game song packs are some of the most popular content on Xbox LIVE and are quickly becoming a very lucrative revenue stream and powerful promotional vehicle for musicians and record labels today.”

Interestingly, people are actually interested in My Chemical Romance, as the band’s song pack, which included original recordings of “Teenagers”, “Famous Last Words” and “This is How I Disappear,” had achieved over 50,000 downloads within the first week.

Real Monster Hunting Expedition

Capcom has announced a new partnership with The Centre for Fortean Zoology, the only professional scientific organization in the world dedicated to the study of unknown animals, which will see the publisher sponsoring the CFZ on a full scale Monster Hunt expedition to South America in association with Monster Hunter Freedom 2.

The aim of the expedition is to collect giant Anaconda specimens. The CFZ hopes to collect some young specimens and bring them back to their new zoo facility in Devon.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is a non-stop epic hunt-or-be-hunted 3rd person action adventure game and continues the Monster Hunter series with more content and options than ever before. Gamers increase their play skills as they battle through breath-taking environments, gathering rare flaura and fauna and seeking out mystical beasts whilst battling against bloodthirsty monsters in some of the best graphics ever seen on PSP system.

And just like in Monster Hunter Freedom 2, the expedition aims to look for evidence of a real life monster - the mythical ‘Di-di’, a feared South American devil described as a hairy apelike being with scythe like claws and is believed responsible for the deaths of hundreds of cattle who were found with their tongues ripped out. The CFZ believe the beast may be a surviving species of ground sloathe thought to have been extinct for over 10,000 years.

The expedition will take place over two weeks this November and will be made up of CFZ specialist team of Monster Hunters as well as Oliver Stallwood, a London Metro Newspaper reporter. The team will journey deep into the South American jungle by a shaman guide and will be posting daily blogs and footage on their blog.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 will be released in Europe on September 7 for PSP.
