BioShock’s release has seen quite a few controversies raised on the use of online activation, as well as the installation of a rootkit used with the DRM. To quell fears, Ken Levine, the game’s creative director, spoke to Joystiq, stating that the SecuROM copyright protection will be eventually removed.

“At some point we’ll move back from online activation,” he said. “If people want to play BioShock ten years from now, they’ll be able to play it.”

He also went on to dispel the PS3 rumor - NO BIOSHOCK FOR PS3. “I promise you, there is no secret plan about the PS3 that we’re keeping from people,” he stated. “There’s no PS3 development going on that we’re hiding.”

Levine then reminds gamers about their exclusive deal with Microsoft regarding the game, implying that it is nigh impossible to see the game being released on PS3.

Speaking to MCV, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment executive Ron Scott said that “We’re in this for the long haul,” referring to the company’s entity as a games publisher. “It is vital to be a fully-functional publisher. We are not just an arm of a business that is simply going to leverage the movie properties that Warner has–we are going to be a creative force as well.”

They are looking to reacquire the rights to key Warner properties like Superman, Batman and the Harry Potter franchises, whose game rights are currently held by EA.

“You’ll see a large percentage of Warner properties come on board as we develop the extra capability we need,” he said. “The ability to cross promote our games product with our movie product in a compelling way will be key. Our home video guys are very keen to target PS3 and 360 owners with next-gen movie formats. There are huge marketing and cross-merchandising possibilities.”

Warner has already teamed up with Codemasters to distribute several of its games including Dirt, Overlord and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. The company is also publishing a rhythm-based Alvin and the Chipmunks title this December on PC, PS2 and Wi

It is not known what content was cut from the game for the rating, but the ESRB content descriptors include “intense violence”, “strong sexual content” and “blood and gore”, among other things. The game is still banned in the UK and getting it unbanned will take a long time as it’s a lengthy legal process.

More new games are making their way to Wii’s Virtual Console service. This week’s Euro offering includes Wrecking Crew (NES), Lunar Pool (NES) and Neutopia (Turbografx). Scoop:

Originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, Wrecking Crew sees Mario take on the unique role of demolition engineer. Players must identify the most effective route through the many enemy infested levels before demolishing all the structures. With a level editor allowing players to save and play their own creations as well as support for two players, Wrecking Crew™ is a blast for 500 Wii Points.

If you’re looking for something more traditional, why not have a go at Lunar Pool originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991? Lunar Pool reinvents the classic game of pool by giving it a quirky and futuristic flair. Simply hit the cue ball with your cue and get as many of the other balls into the pockets as possible. With interchangeable features including different ball arrangements, multi-player and a varying degree of friction on the table, this game is sure to bring out the competitive side in anyone. Lunar Pool is available on Virtual Console this week for 500 Wii Points.

Rounding off this week’s Virtual Console offering is 1990 Turbografx classic Neutopia. This classic action RPG follows a young boy who sets off on an epic adventure to free a captive princess and recover medallions stolen by an evil Demon. Players must travel across land, sea and sky, solving puzzles and navigating through labyrinths as they hunt for hidden treasure and powerful equipment to aid them in their quest. Neutopia is available now for 600 Wii points.

Majesco Entertainment sent out word that it has released a couple of its games on GameTap, a subscription-based broadband gaming network. Titles from the publisher include Psychonauts, BloodRayne 1 & 2 and Jaws Unleashed, which are all available for subscription play and digital download on the service. This year’s London Games Festival is shaping up to be quite an event, with over 40 events taking place all over the British capital, it will become mighty crazy. The organizers of the event are now calling independent game developers, distributors and smaller players to participate in the event. Here’s the deal:

In addition to events from large publishers and hardware manufacturers, London Games Festival will include a number of exciting events exploring aspects of interactive entertainment as culture, creative form and new markets. The fringe is designed to recognise that many computer games and most digital play falls beyond the scope of the games industry.

The Fringe will reflect a spectrum of activity: independent game development and distribution, participatory community play, the future of game design, artists’ games, live action role-play, augmented reality games, casual games, interactive storytelling and more. The Fringe will involve performance, exhibitions, master classes and seminars, participatory workshops and, of course, opportunities to play.

The London Games Fringe is open to anyone who wants to get involved. The festival is looking for people who are keen to create their own events under the ‘London Games Festival Fringe’ umbrella and will support these satellite events through online and print promotion, marketing support, partnerships and venue space. These may be seminar events, street games, performances or exhibitions.

Fringe events including a week long Game lab - developing new concepts and ideas, Sense of play - a game design symposium, and Head Trauma - a cinema based alternate-reality game. The festival runs from October 22 to 26.
