Zeno Clash is an action game with a strong focus on melee combat set in a punk fantasy world. Featuring up close and brutal combat in a first-person perspective, the game is played in battle scenarios where the adversaries are always dangerously close and the use of exotic firearms and artifacts is a commodity. The new close combat mechanics are a deviation from traditional shooting in the FPS genre that will feel fresh for players. The first chapter is set in a fantastic & chaotic world where the main character has been exiled from his clan and hunted down by his own brothers. A desperate journey past the forbidden desert will bring him to the end of the world.
The game’s official website is up, dishing out some more information on the game. Check out the first screenshots below.

In an interview with Pocket Gamer, Peter Ahnegard of Sony Ericsson confirmed that they are looking into the possibility of a PlayStation branded mobile phone. However, he said that there are certain expectations that come with a brand name and so far technology had stopped them from joining these two brands together.
“We’re not launching a brand of handset simply because we can, but because we can lead up to the expectations of the consumer,” he said. “Up until today we haven’t felt we could launch a PlayStation phone because it wouldn’t be recognized as a true continuation of that brand of products.” He doesn’t expect the PlayStation Phone to appear anytime soon, though he mentions that it should come out by Christmas. “But exactly which Christmas I can’t confirm!” he concluded.

Some people just aren’t happy. Gamespot reports that the recently rerated Manhunt 2 has come under fire, specifically ESRB, who are now asked to reveal details as to what has changed since the game got the AO (Adults Only) rating. California senator Leland Yee has asked the advisory board to explain why the game has received a new rating of M (Mature); similar calls have been made by the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood.
ESRB president Patricia Vance has responded. She said, “Publishers submit game content to the ESRB on a confidential basis. It is simply not our place to reveal specific details about the content we have reviewed, particularly when it involves a product yet to be released. What can be said is that the changes that were made to the game, including the depictions themselves and the context in which those depictions were presented, were sufficient to warrant the assignment of an M (Mature 17+) rating by our raters.”
She also suggested that instead of making such complaints, one should work with parents to educate them about the ratings system and ask them to buy games accordingly for their children. She added, “It is a parent’s rightful place to make choices for their own children. The ESRB and console manufacturers provide families with the tools and information to help them do so.”
Politicians are tough people to please though. When contacted by Gamespot, Senator Lee responded with “What are they trying to hide?” He went on to say that the ESRB cannot be trusted for their “culture of secrecy” and blames the board for not “protecting children” from ultra-violent games.

Today will mark the release of an update for the Xbox 360 version of Lost Planet. This extensive network update will optimize the online gameplay experience. Details below:
On Thursday, August 30th, a network update will be implemented where players will be able to select from three different connection types when creating an online match. Poor programmers at Valve are facing tough times: no BioShock for them. The company’s head honcho Gabe Newell explained to CVG that a ban on the excellent shooter has been imposed in the offices because of the work required to get Half-Life 2: Episode Two out the door. Apparently, getting their own game out will get everyone in the company a copy of BioShock as a reward. Weird indeed! However, Newell then admitted that he is looking forward to playing it.

EuroGamer carries confirmation that there will not be a PS3 demo for Unreal Tournament 3 before its release later this year. This was revealed to them by Mark Rein, who stated that while there will be a PC demo for the game, there won’t be a PS3 demo “before the game ships,” implying that a demo might be headed for the console after the game is available in stores.
He compares the situation to that of Gears of War. “What we told Microsoft last year - they wanted a demo for Gears of War and we said ‘you’ve got a choice - you can have the demo this year or the game this year’.”
Rein cites issues of testing the full game and resources as a major reason for not creating the demo.

How do you make a game out of a knight mounted on a flying ostrich defeating similarly equipped foes? Well, you gotta ask CP Productions then. The studio plans on making a film adaptation of classic arcade title Joust. Set to be completed by next June, the film is being billed as “Gladiator meets Mad Max.”
The script has been penned by Marc Gottlieb and is set 25 years on in the floating city of Las Vegas. It is unclear as to how it will relate to the game itself and how many major characters will appear. According to GameDaily BIZ, the studio plans on maintaining the integrity of its films, which it plans to independently finance. “We won’t have eight writers and six executives trying to put their thumbprint on the film… the vision of the filmmakers will be kept pure,” said studio founder Michael Cerenzie.
It is yet unclear if the game’s author John Newcomer is involved.
