Multiwinia Coming

As its next project, Introversion Software, the self-proclaimed ‘last of the bedroom programmers’, is working on a multiplayer version of Darwinia. Wittily dubbed Multiwinia, the game will add multiplayer support to the strategy game, offering both co-operative and competitive battles between massive Darwinian armies. The game will also offer a series of separate game modes, each with a number of unique levels offering a variety of new challenges.

No other information was divulged, though it was mentioned that Multiwinia will feature graphical updates as well. It is being targeted for release sometime next year.

Trophy Support Mandatory From January 2009

Taking their cue from Microsoft, Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed that Trophy support will be mandatory in PS3 games released after January 2009.

Similar to Xbox Live’s Achievements, the Trophy system rewards players for in-game achievements. It was introduced earlier this year in a PS3 firmware update. Some games have been patched to include Trophy support, but almost 90% of the PS3 games out there don’t support the feature.

Dead Space Comic Book Released

Finished Dead Space, but want more of the lore? Run to your nearest comic book store, as today marks the release of the hardbook comic based on the game. It serves as a prequel story for the game and has been written by Antony Johnson and illustrated by Ben Templesmith.

The book also features an exclusive bonus art section and a background section on the major characters.

National Geographic Games

The nonprofit National Geographic Society is seeing the birth of a spinoff called National Geographic Ventures that will create PC, console and handheld games based on the company’s nature-themed television shows and its magazine.

Their first title is Herod’s Last Tomb, a hidden objects game that is already available on Windows and iPhone. “Entertainment with substance” is their motto, apparently, and their focus is not teaching materials. Upcoming titles include Rain Forests, Greencity and Africa.

World at War on Steam

Expanding your purchase options, Call of Duty: World at War is now available on Steam.

Developed by Treyarch, the game is now selling like hotcakes across all regions. It can be bought for $49.95, the same price as retail.
