Hall Leaves WBIE to Form HDFilms

GameBIZ Daily reports that WBIE’s Jason Hall has left the company to move onto his own production company HDFilms, a company that will “segue into a first-look videogame and feature film development deal.” Samantha Ryan, Monolith’s CEO, will be taking over for Hall; however, she will also remain Monolith’s CEO.

As per the article, Jason Hall will also stay actively involved with WBIE and will serve as “executive producer of key WBIE video game titles and will continue to shepherd pre-existing and new HDFilms’ projects in development for Warner Bros. Pictures.” Newsweek has an interview with the man as to why he is stepping down from his role at WBIE.

Trophy Support Mandatory From January 2009

Taking their cue from Microsoft, Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed that Trophy support will be mandatory in PS3 games released after January 2009.

Similar to Xbox Live’s Achievements, the Trophy system rewards players for in-game achievements. It was introduced earlier this year in a PS3 firmware update. Some games have been patched to include Trophy support, but almost 90% of the PS3 games out there don’t support the feature.

Dead Space Comic Book Released

Finished Dead Space, but want more of the lore? Run to your nearest comic book store, as today marks the release of the hardbook comic based on the game. It serves as a prequel story for the game and has been written by Antony Johnson and illustrated by Ben Templesmith.

The book also features an exclusive bonus art section and a background section on the major characters.

National Geographic Games

The nonprofit National Geographic Society is seeing the birth of a spinoff called National Geographic Ventures that will create PC, console and handheld games based on the company’s nature-themed television shows and its magazine.

Their first title is Herod’s Last Tomb, a hidden objects game that is already available on Windows and iPhone. “Entertainment with substance” is their motto, apparently, and their focus is not teaching materials. Upcoming titles include Rain Forests, Greencity and Africa.

World at War on Steam

Expanding your purchase options, Call of Duty: World at War is now available on Steam.

Developed by Treyarch, the game is now selling like hotcakes across all regions. It can be bought for $49.95, the same price as retail.
