Firefly MMOG In the Works

Fans of the ill-fated Firefly show will be elated to know that a MMOG is in the works. According to this Wired article, the game will be handled by Multiverse, maker of a free MMO-creation platform, who has struck a deal with Fox for the licensing rights.

Firefly (and the flop movie Serenity) has quite a hardcore fanbase, and satisfying them can be quite difficult. That’s a problem Multiverse has, as it’s a platform maker and does not have any experience in the creation of an actual MMOG. Thankfully, the company will hire a development team that will create the game using its tools. Since the underlying technology is in place, Multiverse expects the game to be available sometime in 2008.

Not much is known on the actual game itself, but the article has some more details of this upcoming MMORPG.

Enhanced Enchanted Arms on PS3

Although it has been available for almost a year now, From Software will be re-releasing Enchanted Arms for the PS3 early next year. Why wait for a year-old game on the PS3? Well, because it features “large scale” improvements.

According to From Software, the game has undergone a graphical overhaul during the past year - textures are now far sharper, bridging the gap between the game’s graphics and the movie scenes. The story will also receive several new chapters, including a large number of conversational scenes being changed into full demo scenes. There are also multiple character poses and new modeling data to further enhance the characters’ performances.

That’s not all: the game will also see its battle system improved and a large number of new golems have been added. The theme music is also being recreated by a performer called “mink”; background music is also being redone.

Enchanted Arms will hit the PS3 in Japan on January 25. No North American or European release dates have been mentioned.

Yet another World War II-change-history game is headed our way thanks to Legendo Entertainment. Dubbed Attack on Pearl Harbor, the game has players fighting for either sides, defending or attacking the historical harbor. Here’s the deal:

In Attack on Pearl Harbor, players can sign up for either side as they are offered the role of daring US gunner turned pilot Douglas Knox or Japanese ace Zenji Yamada. History’s yours to shape: Either nation can win the war depending on your actions as players battle for supremacy behind the cockpits of some of the most prolific fighters, bombers and torpedo-bearing aircraft of the WWII Pacific Theater. Playable planes include Japan’s Mitsubishi A6M “Zero”, the D3A1 Aichi “Val” and the B5N Nakajima “Kate” as well as America’s Chance Vought F4U Corsair, the Douglas SBD Dauntless and the Grumman TBM Avenger.

Attack on Pearl Harbor features four campaigns, plus a “quick play” dogfight game mode. In addition to the initial Japanese attack on Hawaii, the game also offers a host of famed and challenging scenarios such as the Battle of Midway, Iwo Jima, Burma and Manila. Each campaign spans several months during 1941-1945, offering an exciting and varied selection of missions each 30-day period.

“Thanks to the talented team at 3D People, we’ve produced a gorgeous “pick up and play” aerial combat experience that recreates all the intensity and atmosphere of the Pacific War,” said Bjorn Larsson, CEO, Legendo Entertainment. “We look forward to bringing this stunning game to the masses in early 2007.”

Peter Nagy, project manager at 3D People, continued, “We’re thrilled to partner with Legendo on this exciting new title. Attack on Pearl Harbor isn’t just amazing-looking. It’s also been designed from the ground up to be fun and accessible to the widest possible audience.”

Chris Bateman, Managing Director of International Hobo Ltd, which provides game design and dialogue scripting services for 3D People and other clients added: “It’s been a delight to see this game come together. The title provides a very different perspective on World War II by affording audiences the chance to see the conflict from either side while remaining brilliantly playable.”

Features

  • Intuitive Controls - Pick up and play the game via a simple, straightforward control scheme that’ll have anyone flying in seconds.
  • Jaw-Dropping Graphics - Widescreen gaming support coupled with dazzling special effects provides a beautifully rendered backdrop of the Pacific.
  • Choose Your Side - Play as the dashing Douglas Knox of the USAAF or fighter pilot Zenji Yamada of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service.
  • Riveting Action - Take off from the deck of an aircraft carrier in the most prolific fighters, bombers and torpedo-bearing aircraft of the WWII Pacific Theatre!
  • Historical Campaigns - Fight the selfsame battles that determined the outcome of the war, from Pearl Harbor to Iwo Jima!

The game is set for release during Q1 2007.
