Strategy Informer reports that Ubisoft has cancelled Killing Day, an awesome looking FPS shown at Sony’s pre-E3 2005 conference. No reason for the cancellation was mentioned, though the site does speculate that Ubi’s recent love affair with the Wii might be the cause.

Though nothing much is known about the game, it has been announced that development of Sabotage has been taken over by ML Enterprises from Replay Studios.
Jurie Horneman will help as a producer from ML Enterprises to handle the development in Hamburg. He has been working in the industry for 15 years, with notables including Rockstar Vienna and JoWood Productions.
Sabotage will have players perform acts of sabotage all across Europe in the shoes of Violette Summer, an allied secret operative in the Second World War. No further information was detailed.

Rising Star Games has announced Rainbow Islands Evolution, a remake of a Taito classic, for the PSP. Third in the company’s Evolution series, which includes updates to Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands will also see “innovative, original extrapolations of classic game designs whilst harnessing the 3D power of the PSP.”
Set once again in the titular Rainbow Islands, Bub and Bob are now under the shadow of an evil record company who is polluting the ecosystem with a constant, mass-produced musical dirge. With this cacophony causing the flora to wilt and the fauna to mutate into aggressive enemies, only Bub and Bob have the experience to take on the record company and its seven bosses, setting the stage for an entirely new adventure. The game environment itself is receiving a major overhaul. The strict vertical ascents of the original have been expanded and extrapolated into three dimensions, with each level’s building-block platforms now following perspective and disappearing into the distance. As Bub and Bob negotiate the levels, these platforms will scroll to the forefront as they become accessible. This literally opens up a new dimension for the classic Rainbow Islands gameplay and forms just one of a host of new features, which will be detailed as Rainbow Islands Evolution nears its early 2007 release date.
Rainbow Islands Evolution is set for release sometime next year. Further details are expected to be announced shortly.

Up until now, team sports games on consoles have only been about “you”. But we all know that there is no “u” in team, and that’s why 2K Sports will implement a “Team Unity” system in College Hoops 2K7, emphasizing the importance of team chemistry in sports games.
“A positively-focused, cohesive team makes all the difference when it comes to competing in any sport,” said Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio. “Team chemistry is crucial in college ball as it can make or break a team and make the impossible seem possible for underdog teams. George Mason’s entrance into the Final Four last year is an excellent example of how great team unity will often lead to great success. Team Unity in College Hoops 2K7 allows gamers to focus on the important factors of fundamental team basketball to maximize winning potential.”
Team Unity in the upcoming game will help gamers gauge and predict their team’s performance. Four key factors will be taken into consideration when calculating Team Unity: individual player confidence, overall team awareness, rating lineup consistency and a strong team leader. If the level of Unity is low, it will result in bad rotational defense, sloppy screen setting, missed passes, and a myriad of other consequences. This feature will also play an important role in Legacy Mode, as it impacts a team’s performance over the course of one or several seasons.
College Hoops 2K7 Is now available for Xbox and Xbox 360; December will see the release of the PS2 version, and a PS3 version is expected later this Winter.

Codemsters sends word that Colin McRae: DIRT will be powered by its proprietary Neon engine. The engine, developed solely for (now) current-generation platforms, will provide “sensational” realism and car handling, as well as incredibly detailed vehicles and living environments. Here’s a bit on Neon:
Neon is a multi-platform continuous technical development that’s already been in production for over 18 months with over 30 tech experts on the team. Neon is being used to build Colin McRae: DIRT from the ground up with technology developed exclusively for next-generation formats; there’s no adaptation of previous McRae tech in DIRT.Neon will ensure that DIRT’s exhilarating mix of off-road race events will be compounded into one adrenaline rush of a video game with playability that’s true to the Colin McRae series.
The detail Neon provides enables the team to model locations and environments as accurately as possible, providing each with a unique look and feel, right down to the effects of the wind.
Using real-time physics to model air movements, everything will be affected by the wind: exhaust smoke, trees, foliage, trackside flags, rainfall and the vehicles themselves. A car will create an air rush wake that will have an effect on everything it passes and also generate a real-time slipstream.
Impact from damage will see metal crumple, glass smash and everything that you collide with in the environment will be destroyed in a realistic way. Small trees snap and bend, grass can be flattened, wood will splinter and stone will be smashed, it’ll even wrap a car around a tree if the crash is serious enough.
Colin McRae: DIRT will feature 40 officially licensed cars from 12 car class categories, including prototypes. The game is scheduled for release sometime next year for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Below are some screenshots:
