Golden Joystick Awards 2006 Nominees
Posted on Monday, August 7th, 2006 in Industry, Oddities |

The shortlists for the 24th (!) Annual Golden Joystick Awards have been announced by its organizers, listing nominees across 16 categories. Some standouts include 50 Cent: Bulletproof for ‘Girls Choice Award’, 50 Cent: Bulletproof for ‘PlayStation Game of the Year’ and, once again, 50 Cent: Bulletproof for ‘Ultimate Game of the Year’. Yes, 50 Cent: Bulletproof has been nominated for the game of the year award… there goes the credibility down the drain.

Anyways, the final results will be unveiled at a “glitzy” award ceremony, sure to be filled with celebrities and superstars who don’t give a shit about gaming, held at London’s Park Lane Hilton hotel on October 27. The ceremony will be broadcasted live on the Internet via CVG’s website.

Full list of nominees can be found after the jump.

Codemasters has announced that ArchLord, the upcoming MMORPG from the publisher, will make use of the PlayPLUS payment system, allowing gamers to purchase subscription packages that include both game time and in-game bonus credits.

There will be three levels, with the lowest starting at $10/month; it will include a month of play as well as 1500 credits for use in the game for “initial items and enhancements,” including teleportation spells, health boosts and others. Regular in-game items will still be freely available through the in-game currency system. The other two levels are $20 and $40, with each offering 3400 and 8000 credits, respectively.

This PlayPLUS system will be integrated into the game in time for its launch in Q3 2006. However, participants of the forthcoming beta test will be able to experience the system early.
