Headbangers UNITE! Hailed by Revolver magazine as “the mother of all shred fests” GIGANTOUR is back this year, and it is being sponsored by none other than Gears of War. This year’s festival will be headlined by Megaeth, along with Lamb of God, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Overkill and Sanctity, with more artists to be announced soon.

Director of Xbox Marketing, Craig Davison, is very excited about the partnership: “We’re totally jazzed about the partnership between Gigantour 2006 and our forthcoming Xbox 360 blockbuster, Gears of War! Partnering a music extravaganza like GIGANTOUR with the launch of a mega-hit game like Gears of War captures the excitement around two awesome happenings for fans of music and video games!”

GIGANTOUR is scheduled to run from September 7 through October 8 (tour schedule after the jump). Gears of War is, according to a Xbox.com slipup, (hopefully) scheduled for release on October 2.

In related news, the official fan site kit for the game has gone live. Additionally, a post by Mark Rein on Epic’s Gears of War forum states that a BIG announcement is coming next week.

The Games Convention at Leipzig, Germany is shaping up to be quite a treat this year. To be held from August 23 to 27, the convention will see Kojima Productions present five games from the Japanese studio: four Metal Gear titles and Lunar Knights for DS.

Located in Hall 5, Booth F02, Konami will be showcasing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for PS3 via a video trailer. It is not known whether it will be the E3 trailer, or a completely new one. Visitors to the convention will also be able to check out Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, a three-disc re-release of the PS2 classic, as well as Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel and Portable Ops, their two new PSP titles.

The Konami stand will also be host to Lunar Knights, a new franchise from Kojima Productions. It will be the first time that the game will be available in playable form in Europe. The game has players use two characters with different abilities to fight hordes of vampires with special weapons; it will feature a digital climate, where the top screen will simulate real weather.

Further details of Konami’s exhibition-program will be available shortly.

LucasArts’ presentation at Comic-Con included a peek at a next-gen Star Wars game whose video has since gone online for StarWars.com’s Hyperspace members. For normal folks like us, there’s always YouTube: the drool-inducing clip has gone live on the video-sharing site, showing off pre-visualization (pre-rendered) footage of Jedis using Force powers to take out wary Stormtroopers.
