Jackie Chan is now a legend, but as with other actors, had a humble beginning in Hong Kong movies. He starred in films such as Rumble in the Bronx, Supercop and First Strike which were directed by Stanley Tong, who, after Chan’s movies became hits in the US, saw him showered with offers to do Hollywood movies. Unfortunately, his first (and up to now) last Hollywood endeavour – Mr. Magoo with Leslie Nielsen – saw critically panned and didn’t do well financially.

Tong, according to a new report by Hollywood Reporter, has been approached with offers to do a movie based on the Fear Effect games. It comes as relief to gamers who were stricken with horror to learn that Uwe Boll was attached to the project first.

As the report claims, Tong is being considered because the movie is to be set in Hong Kong, his homeland. The movie is being green lighted a budget of $25 million and will begin shooting later this year for release sometime in 2008.

Most interesting is the mention of a next-gen Fear Effect game in the works near the end of the article. Apparently, “Eidos is developing a third Fear Effect game for next-generation consoles” – no platforms or developer was mentioned. As expected, Eidos would not confirm this, nor deny it.

The Fear Effect games were developed by Kronos Digital which has since been closed. The last game to come out was Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix in 2001 for the PS1.

Halo 2 PC To Hit “Some time” After Vista

Citing high-level sources in Microsoft, GamePro is reporting that the PC version of Halo 2 will hit some time after the launch of Windows Vista in Q1 2007.

They also learned some details on the game, one of which isn’t so exciting: Halo 2 will not feature cross-platform multiplayer, meaning that Xbox and PC gamers will only be fighting between themselves and not each other. However, the source cited was optimistic that a solution could be found.

It was also reported that Halo 2 will look “great” thanks to the use of DirectX 10 graphics in Vista. No details on the “great” look were offered. It was also stated that Microsoft will include a built-in map editor and modding system to help make the aging game more popular.

Halo 2, according to the report, is slated to hit sometime after the release of Windows Vista in Q1 2007.
